FORT program

The Future Officer Readiness Training (FORT) Program is designed and dedicated to improving, enhancing, and maintaining the physical fitness level of potential future City of Fort Wayne Police Officers. The general goal of the program is to provide candidates with the skills and resources to successfully pass the Fort Wayne Police Department physical fitness test and prepare for the rigorous Fort Wayne Police Academy fitness standards.

Who is eligible to attend?

Eligibility will be limited to only those candidates who have an application file during the open application period of March 1st – May 31st of the current calendar year. The candidate list will be refreshed each open application period.

Attendance will be limited, and available on a first come, first served basis via the FWPD Recruiting App. Applicants can engage with a Recruiter by texting JoinFWPD to 260-233-9850.

Basic eligibility requirements include but are not limited to having a valid application on file. Candidates must be between 21-39 years of age. Continued participation in the program is done so at the discretion of the FWPD Staff.

This program is open to all levels of fitness.

How often can I attend?

Events will be held approximately two (2) times per month, on varying dates and times, for approximately two (2) hours per session. Attendance is on a first come first serve basis.

What should I bring or wear?

All participants should bring an Identification Card or Driver’s License.

Dress for the weather with athletic attire if possible.

Do I have to sign a waiver?

Yes, all attendees will be required to sign a Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement each year to participate in the events.

What kind of training will be done?

The program will feature a progressive training plan, to include, but not limited to the following:

 

  • Vertical Jump Readiness
    • Jump rope, single leg hops, tuck jumps, broad jumps, box jumps, and squats.
  • Sit up Readiness
    • Crunches, reverse crunches, and leg lifts.
  • 300-meter Spring Test Readiness
    • 10 x 30m sprints [3 min rest]
    • 6 x 50m sprints [5 min rest]
    • 3 x 100m sprints [1 min rest]
    • 2 x 150m sprints [5 min rest]
  • Push-up Readiness
    • Planks, rows, and tricep dips.
  • 1.5 mile Run Readiness
    • 800-meter run
    • 1-mile run
    • 1.5 mile run
    • 2 mile run

What if I can’t attend? Will this affect my chances of being hired by the Fort Wayne Police Department?

If you can’t attend it is ok! This program is completely optional, and participation is not a requirement of the testing process. Attendance does not affect your chances of being hired.

For those that cannot attend events we will do our best to supply you with an overview of what we did, and what suggestions we have for participants to do between current and future events.
